Visual Rhetoric

This was put out by the US Smokeless Tobacco Company in order to advertise the oldest maker of smokeless tobacco, Copenhagen. The audience of this advertisement is most likely the average working man, and men who tend to hold labor based jobs outside. The pathos is the reference in the advertisement about Copenhagen being "Legendary" and around since 1822. The logos is just to encourage the reader that it is ok to use the product and it is well proven to be satisfactory since it has been around for so long. The ethos is calm and focuses on the satisfaction and age of Copenhagen. It also uses the image of a cowboy along with the "Legendary" description of the product.

Photo Essay

In this photo essay, the author is attempting to persuade the reader or viewer that a fishing trip to Puerto Rico is well worth the cost. The vacation he is supporting is centered around fishing, but uses many different photos. He uses a balance of photos from the fish themselves to the marina and surrounding landmarks. He takes a minute to explain each picture with a caption in order to clarify for the reader what importance each picture has. The essay is successful in its persuasion because he makes Puerto Rico appear as a quiet little paradise. This is the address to the essay, titled "Puerto Rico Bonus Photos June 2005" http://www.floridasportsman.com/gallery/.
